Jim Banks Will Fight to Repeal Obamacare and Implement Real Healthcare Reform

Jim Banks opposes implementation of the Affordable Care Act and will do everything he can to implement policies to repeal Obamacare. This ill-conceived takeover of the federal healthcare system has failed to deliver on its promises of improved, affordable healthcare for Hoosiers and needs to be repealed. There are three major problems with Obamacare. They are:

  1. Obamacare fails to utilize time-tested, market-driven principles to reduce the cost of healthcare spending and has actually resulted in most Hoosiers paying more for health care coverage
  2. Employers are forced to choose between their deeply-held personal beliefs and obeying the law when providing health coverage
  3. The changes to the healthcare system effectively inserts the government into the doctor-patient relationship

Instead of identifying methods to use the market to create cost savings, Obamacare looks to the government to solve problems like providing critical access health care and managing healthcare costs. The government has a miserable record when it comes to administering health care. We need look no further than the current state of the VA Health System for evidence of their inability to provide quality health care. As an Afghanistan War Veteran who believes we need to live up to the promises we made to our veterans, Jim believes that government-administered programs like the VA Health System fall well short of the standard Hoosiers consider acceptable.

One of the methods the government is using to pay for Obamacare is an unnecessary tax on medical devices that are manufactured in northeast Indiana. Jim Banks is determined to fight to repeal this job-killing tax that inhibits growth of one of the most important sectors of our local economy and prevents these manufacturers from investing the resources they need to identify new improvements and advancements to help keep Americans healthy and strong for years to come.

Obamacare also represents a dramatic threat to how our government approaches our personal liberties. This legislation lays the groundwork for dramatic attacks on our personal freedom to make decisions about our personal lives. These restrictions have already begun to attack the freedoms of business owners and private organizations that have strongly held beliefs on what types of services they should provide.

If elected Jim would support market-based health care reforms that recognize the experience and expertise of health care practitioners when it comes to making decisions about patient care. Ultimately, when there is conflict between what should be done in the patient’s interest and what an insurance provider is willing to pay for, whether it be the private or public sector, the patient’s healthcare provider needs to have a seat at the table to advocate for their patient’s health outcomes.

Our personal health is too critical to make subject to government intrusion and regulation. Market-based solutions that provide for more completion and limit government interference have worked time and again in other areas of the economy – it’s time the government takes this approach to healthcare reform as well.
